Samsung has started to work on a new chipset that will be available to handle 5G data speeds. Currently with the Galaxy S9 we have Exynos 9810 chipset. This new chipset that Samsung started to work on in January 2018 with 5G support is being called 9820. Just a slight difference in naming structure.
5G speeds will give us gigabit speeds and faster Internet. But it will be best for people that wants to download or stream things faster. Currently it’s hard to stream 4K YouTube videos for example since the video files are so large. But we are now getting both more powerful AI CPUs and GPUs for phones and we recently saw Huawei unveil the Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design that comes in a 512GB Internal storage edition. So soon streaming 4K videos will be smooth.
The rumors is they think 9820 will be built on Samsung’s 7nm EUV process. The Samsung Galaxy S10 may come with 5G support. But perhaps Samsung will change it’s naming structure since it starts to become a bit long after 10 phones.
2019 Qualcomm will come out with a new 5G Snapdragon modem that phones will be able to use. We are moving towards a future where everything constantly happens much faster. Which is very exciting. But clearly many people will be scared because new things being introduced could be very scary.
There is a great book speaking about this time that we live in it’s called The Great Acceleration by Robert Colvile. He speaks deeply about this and I highly recommend this book if you are more interested in this topic. Phones in terms of new features are starting to reach a peak.
In a few years we will see more Virtual Reality focus since that truly is the next level stuff. People are tired of looking down on a small screen. The next evolution will be something more smooth. I talked about HTC’s new VR headset a couple weeks ago. That one seems amazing! I really loved their first edition.
HTC Vive Pro is a brand new updated virtual reality headset from HTC which is an awesome upgrade from HTC Vive that got released a few years ago. This successor comes with more pixels to create an even better realistic feel.
Main specs: Dual AMOLED 3.5″ diagonal screen, 2880×1600 pixels combined with both eyes, 90 Hz refresh rate, 110 degrees field of view, Hi-res audio, Integrated microphone, USB-C 3.0 connector, DP1.2 and Bluetooth!
The tracking features on HTC Vive Pro are SteamVR Tracking, G-sensor, Gyroscope, Proximity and IPD sensor! The most impressive thing with Vive Pro is the 615 pixels per inch which gives 37% ppi increase and 78% pixel increase compared to previous generation.
They have also redesigned the face cushion and the node pad so they let in less light to create a more realistic VR experience. if I have understood it correct then audio should also be improved with this new model. They also seem to have integrated headphones on top of this model something we didn’t see with the first generation!
One of the big issues with first generation was that it was a bit bulky to take off and put on. Seems like they are trying to solve more of that by making this new generation more comfortable to wear and use by using better ergonomics.
Perhaps HTC Vive Pro won’t be a massive change compared to first generation the key seem to be more pixels but is it really worth a couple hundred more euros? Probably not for majority. The first Vive is still amazing and now you will be able to pick it up for an even lower price!
The specs that they recommend for this new VR headset is Core i5-4590 or AMD FX 8350 processor. In graphics you need GeForce GTX1060 or Radeon RX480! Memory is only at 4GB of RAM which is nice. You also need a new version of Windows either 8.1 or Windows 10! Sorry Windows 7 users…
Ever been too lazy and don’t know where to start in this new Virtual Reality world? I had the same feel last year. I researched and found the best VR headset was HTC Vive at that time. I bought it and a VR ready laptop! Worked great!
There is also another company that is producing VR headsets. They are called Oculus. And now a starter pack has been created with the Rift VR headset. It’s available where you get the Virtual-Reality headset, Earphone, Oculus Touch and Alienware X51 R3 powerful PC all in one package!
The PC in the package solution is running with Windows 10, Intel Core i5 6400 2.7GHz processor, 16GB DDR4, 256GB SSD, GTX 970 (that is using 4GB dedicated video memory!). The good thing here is that you don’t have to worry if the headset will work with your station. Here you know from the start it’s VR ready to go computer!
If you have never tried VR before than it will be a cool first hand experience. I really love my HTC Vive VR headset and can tell you it’s only going to be more amazing in the future!
What it does is it creates a realistic world in front of you that can make you forget the “real world”. Especially when you put on the earphones! With the sensors you place in your home the headset always know where you are at. So you don’t walk into something!
PlayStation VR is another VR system you might want to check out. There are also a ton of cheaper VR solutions out there that doesn’t cost a fortune. Even though this package can be expensive you have to remember that this is not just another boring game experience. This is the future the world will be moving more into. What do you think about this package for VR? Everyone that have tried VR experience get’s addicted too it!
