Samsung Galaxy S8 vs. iPhone 8 Potential Specs!

Audio Version:

So iPhone 8 will be unveiled soon by Apple.

So how does it stack up versus the Samsung Galaxy S8? So I’ve been using the Galaxy S8 for quite some time now as my main phone so I have a pretty good idea how it overall is.

So firstly the Apple iPhone 8 is rumored to come with a borderless Display. A display that might even go full up to the top and bottom of the phone! So Samsung already have a bezel less display when it comes to the sides. But the Galaxy S8 still doesn’t have a full bezel less display on the front. The AMOLED display doesn’t go fully up all the way to the top or bottom. The iPhone 8 might then have less bezel than Galaxy S8.

OLED Finally!

Second thing is how it’s rumored that iPhone 8 will switch to an OLED display away from LCD they been using on previous iPhones. As we know Samsung has been using an amazing AMOLED display for many years! Displays that offers way more vibrant exciting colors especially for looking at photos or video. It’s not that the current iPhone 7 display is super bad. But I really believe Apple will be able to compete better against Samsung with an OLED display. Attracting some Samsung customers maybe even.

The iPhone 8 looks like it will finally get facial recognition! They may call it Face ID. I use this feature already on my S8 and love it. It works almost every time in standard light. But in darkness many times it doesn’t work. But. There is a big bad thing with the iPhone 8.

And that is it may remove the fingerprint sensor that they call Touch ID. Which is a bad thing! I wouldn’t wanna live with a phone that doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor. Because it’s one of the better ways to unlock a phone safe and always works with the right finger.

The face unlock may not work sometimes for me on Galaxy S8 so then I quickly use the fingerprint sensor. But if the iPhone 8 won’t have that then you will have to type the password using the keyboard when Face ID doesn’t work! How annoying.

Samsung’s camera’s are Awesome!

We also have some rumors that the iPhone 8 camera will be able to record in 4K 60fps maybe on both rear and front camera! Which is insane. It will sure take up lots of space in your phone. I have always found the iPhone cameras inferior to Samsung’s main cameras. At least since the Galaxy S3. Samsung seems to know what they are doing in that area.

My iPhone 7 camera has horrible field of view and blurry photos while zoom in vs. Samsung’s high quality camera sensor. Maybe it’s just me. But I don’t think so. Samsung does a really good job on hardware area! More less good on software optimisation…

We also have rumor about iPhone 8 that it will support wireless charging. Which of course is interesting for Apple fans. But the charger will probably cost €149 if I know Apple correct..

Now Samsung has been having wireless charging for years. But I don’t think it’s in widespread use. Because wireless charging usually charges slower. So it sort of becomes no point doing it for most. Some wireless chargers takes hours to charge your device! Which is boring.

Traffic Light iPhone!

The iPhone 8 is also probably going to feature a traffic light camera! It looks really stupid to be honest. And it will add weird weight on one side of the phone. They should remove the camera bump all together!

Samsung’s Galaxy S8 has a camera but it doesn’t stick out! So why does Apple’s have to do it? I think Apple has become a bit lazy after Steve Jobs passed away. Steve Jobs had so amazing visions but when the founder goes away usually it becomes more about the money and less about doing creative amazing solutions. This traffic light is just an annoying design!

Seems like Apple will go back to an all glass design. Which is bad. We already know about the broken glass on iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. And Samsung is also using glass back mine got smashed fast. It’s annoying. But I’m sure the companies do it just for the money. That they want your device to get broken. Because with glass what happens is you have to replace the whole back.

We are expecting to see three new iPhone 8 variants. One with OLED display the other two with standard LCD display. Galaxy S8 variants is available in S8 and S8+ variant and both feature same AMOLED display. The bad part here is the OLED iPhone 8 will probably be super expensive. So many will go with the standard editions.

Water Resistant (Hopefully Improvement over iPhone 7!)

I really hope the iPhone 8 has IP68 water resistant certification the IP-rating the iPhone 7 had was bad. I got two of them and they became unusable after Coca-Cola and water tests. They really must do a better job with the iPhone 8. The interesting part is how the new iPhone seems like it will be around same size as 4.7″ iPhone 7 but with a display of 5.5″ iPhone 7! Which is amazing. Because the iPhone 7 5.5″ really is too big. Feels like an elephant!

In processor we are going to get a brand new A11 chipset. Which I’m sure will perform well against Samsung’s Snapdragon 835/Exynos 8895 setup. Samsung also has amazing performance but the problem with Android is game and app optimisation usually is worse than Apple’s locked iOS system. Usually Apple optimise stuff better with using better software and optimising it.

Expensive oh no!

The iPhone 8 OLED variant is rumored to be costing around $1,000 which is laughable and so expensive. But then again people gonna pay…

From what I have seen on mockup photos of the new glass iPhone 8 it does remind me about the iPhone 3GS but less rounded. Which is funny. Feels like we are going back in time. Hopefully the device will be a bit slimmer but don’t hope for a major change compared to iPhone 7! I hope the iPhone 8 can be as thin and same width or smaller as the standard Galaxy S8. Because then it will feel a bit premium.

We are going to have to wait and see. Apple is expected to announce the 3 new iPhone models at a September event. So stay tuned for that.

iPhone 8 vs. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 vs. LG V30 vs. Sony Xperia XZ1 Poll!

Audio Version:

So today I want to make a poll to see which phone you are looking forward to the most late 2017.

So we have four different new high end phones that will soon be released. Lets start by talking about the Apple iPhone 8. It’s expected to come with a 5.8″ OLED Display, Speedier A11 processor, Glass body, Edge-to-edge Display, Facial Recognition that probably will replace Touch ID.

So no fingerprint sensor on iPhone 8 seems like. Or home button. Because of the Edge-to-edge display. And wireless charging functionality. Something Android has been having for years.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will be like a Galaxy S8+ but with a dual-led camera and an S-Pen. And a smaller battery! It will have either Exynos 8895 or Snapdragon 835. Both the iPhone 8 and Note 8 is suspecting to feature glass back. Which is bad for protection it can break easier than other materials. So it will probably be a good idea to wear a case with these phones. iPhone 8 will be running on Apple’s latest iOS 11 which currently is in beta. New Note 8 will run with Samsung Experience 8.1 and Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

The LG V30 is a new LG phone expected to be unveiled on August 30th a day before IFA 2017 Europe’s largest tech show opens up in Berlin on September 1.

This phone is expected to have 6″ QHD+ OLED Display, rounded corners, Snapdragon 835 (Same processor as Galaxy S8 and OnePlus 5 has), 3200mAh battery, some new “floating bar” (Quick access to shortcuts and notifications), dual-rear cameras for high-performance image capture. It will also feature HDR 10 and Google Daydream support. IP68 certification.

LG G6 was a phone I really enjoyed from LG and I bet this V30 phone will be even more awesome. Looks like they put a great deal of effort into an improved camera. Hopefully the phone won’t come with a glass back I can’t stand that material on a phone. But it probably will have a glass back.

Another rumored device to come soon is the Sony Xperia XZ1. We have some leaked photos already where you can see a device running Android 8. Sony is expected to unveil three new devices on IFA 2017. Sony Xperia XZ1, XZ1 Compact and X1. And based on the pictures we have seen then it looks like XZ1 may be Sony’s first device to have a fingerprint sensor on the back side. Just as other phone companies is doing. Sony usually only did this on the side button.

Sony still seems like they wanna go with their thick bezels trend with no Edge-to-edge style screen. Most other phone companies are starting to slim down their edges to only have a big display on the front. Not Sony. On the other hand it was a long time ago Sony used a home button on the front side. Something we now see other phone companies is starting to do, remove the home button. Only on-screen keys.

If I’m going to have to pick my favorite between all these four I will easily go for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. That is the one phone that stands out and has something the other phones don’t. A stylus to quickly be able to be creative and take notes. And draw things in a creative way. Apple is falling behind I think since 2013 in creativity. They don’t seem to have the same spark as they had with Steve Jobs.

For example these days other companies copy Apple’s design before they even release their product. This year both Essential PH-1 and Sharp Aquos S2 has done the iPhone 8 design and released their phone’s before Apple even announced their iPhone 8!

So there is little things that are special with Apple these days. Now you can get a Android phone with good specs and latest iPhone look for probably around 200 euro. It doesn’t make that much sense these days to pay 800 euro for a flagship device. But people will still do it. The new iPhone 8 also has this horrible traffic light design on it’s camera which I really don’t like

EverythingApplePro discussed about the Android copycats that stole the iPhone 7 design. Here is a number of phone’s copying the iPhone 7 Plus design. Oppo R11, Honor 8 Pro, OnePlus 5, Zenfone 3 Zoom, Honor V9, OUKITEL U20+, CUBOT Rainbow 2, UMIDIGI Z Pro, Ulefone Gemini Pro.

Now this just show’s that Apple need to find something new original thing to do because now people truly are catching up to them. Also many of these Android phones I mentioned here is fully high quality phones. That can do just as much as an iPhone but with a lower price tag.

Another phone that I didn’t mention in this poll but would be worthy to mention is the new Nokia 8 which is expected to be announced soon. So the Nokia brand has made a comeback with HMD. I bought their new Nokia 3 which is their more low end device and I was impressed with it’s quality. For being so cheap it still performs well. Can play high-end games even. One thing that’s a bit boring is how these new Nokia branded phones is coming with a almost full stock Android look. Which I find a bit uncreative for a comeback. They should work on creating their own user experience interface.

The new high-end Nokia 8 is expected to have Snapdragon 835, 4GB of ram, QHD Display, and maybe a 5.25″ screen size. 64GB built-in storage and 51GB available to the user. There is also a 12MP Zeiss optics camera which can shoot 4K video. As I have understood the front facing camera is also 12MP! Nokia 8 will probably be a bit cheaper than the other brands. A more OnePlus 5 pricing maybe around 500-600 euro. The other high end phones probably more at 700-900 euro. Nokia 8 is expected to be announced in London on August 16. We already have a mid-range Nokia phone called Nokia 6.

I expected something more exciting to be revealed with a new iPhone especially now when it’s completely 10year since the first but looks like they will disappoint many with their traffic light iPhone.

Adrian
