My Phones Part 3: Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge!

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge was a very cool phone from Samsung. Because it was the first they released with edge on both sides. They had experienced with it on one side with Note Edge. But this was the first flagship edge phone. The standard S6 didn’t have any edge.

This phone comes with a nicely curved display edge on both right and left side. It doesn’t go 100% to the edge of the phone so it’s just a little edge that doesn’t effect the display experience that much. The phone also comes with a glass back. Which is very glossy and can collect some fingerprints. The camera on rear side has a bump to it. The fingerprint sensor is built into the front home button.

The display is 5.1″ 1440×2560 pixels with Gorilla Glass 4 protection. 16MP f/1.9 2160p camera, the front camera was 5MP f/1.9 1440p@30fps. 3GB RAM with Exynos 7420. 2600 mAh battery. The GPU is Mali-T760MP8.

What is also interesting with the S6 Edge was that it was a year when Samsung decided to remove the water resistance. The Galaxy S5 had an IP rating and S7 as well. So it was a strange move by Samsung.

I really loved this phone and I am still using it today. But it also has it’s flaws. One of the main issues was the software that many times worked horrible and could start to lag. As well as this phone series has been famous for overheating a lot. Especially if you use the mobile hotspot or play a lot of games. It also doesn’t have any stereo speakers. Or expandable microSD slot, or a user-replaceable battery like Galaxy S5 had.

But it does have some cool stuff like wireless charging, heart-rate sensor, barometer and SpO2. And the metal frame on this phone makes it feel very premium even with 2017 standard. It currently is running on Android 7.0. But now we have new Android 8.0 Oreo out but not even the Galaxy S8 have that yet.

It’s cool how this phone has support for 4K video recording and compared to the Galaxy S5 it feels so much more premium. No longer a plastic back. Also no longer a flap for the charging port. It doesn’t have USB type C that we see on 2017 phones. It has the headphone jack next to the charging port which I like. And the gold edition looks really shiny both on front and back side.

In my opinion this phone feels way more exciting than the standard S6 without curves. And the display is super vibrant and warm. Very bright colours and the camera create quality photos. I would still recommend this phone 2017. Mainly because I feel like the camera sometimes performs better than my Galaxy S8! What do you think about Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge?
